About the Art

Picture
Art for me is a way of spatially understanding aspects of life that cannot be fully explained through other mediums.  The most basic way of understanding our world is through experiences.  Encountering art that disrupts the normal experiences of life makes us form new ideas about the world.  A common theme I have found throughout my work has been the transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary.  By snapping people out of their usual space they can see how extraordinary the everyday truly is.  My projects aim to increase our appreciation of everyday experiences and objects.  I think that art can be beautiful but it must also be more then that.  It also cannot simply have a message; people must be able to understand that message.  I think that by seeing the world as the truly amazing place it is we can begin to understand the space we are.

That said- I am open to and interested in interpretations of my works that digress or expand from the ideas that created them.

About the Artist

Picture
I grew up in Sebastopol CA and have been doing art ever since.  You can see some of my art around Sonoma County, mainly in Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. (Check the Map page)

I graduated from University of California at Santa Cruz with a Bachelors in Art and a Bachelors in History of Art and Visual Culture.

I have been doing community art projects for over a decade and am currently also a middle school art teacher in San Francisco. Working with students to inspire them through exploring their artistic identity is one of the most rewarding and wonderful experiences of my life.

A few years ago I wrote and illustrated a Children's Book which has been a lifelong dream of mine!  "Far Away Tales" is a fun group of poems and watercolor paintings inspired by Classic Fair Tales and Myths!  But these stories are not the ones you know!  Available now on my Etsy Shop ButterflyPages

If you are interested in purchasing a painting on this site or a print of a painting or want to commission me to design/paint a mural/sign or other public art project you have in mind you can send me an email
